La Gran Perla breeds Pyrenean Mastiffs in the peace of the Finnish countryside. Our goal is to have and breed healthy dogs that fit into the breed standard and into the modern Finnish society, not forgetting the dogs’ original use in Spain as Livestock guardians. The original use of this breed is a very important thing for us and therefore we try to make the best circumstances for our dogs to live in.


In Southern-Carelia, Joutseno, a place called Tammi-Kokki we have a 1,2 ha fenced area where we live and do the breeding. The terrain varies from dry peaty forest with big height differences all the way to the lake Saimaa.

Every dog we have has its own, carefully considered, long-time plan for the future and for the breeding. Still we have noticed that every individual has become more than just a family member. Maybe it just happens when you fall in love with this breed.

Our goal in breeding is not to increase the number of Pyrenean Mastiffs, anyone can do that. Our goal is to take the breed forward.

We breed with dogs that are healthy and breed typical, inside out. The individuals we choose just by using common sense. We explore the dogs as a whole with an open mind but still very critically. This way we can find a combination more likely to give us a better result.

Head, type and movement, that’s our guideline, not forgetting breed typical character and health. We are ready, and have already worked hard for this. Still there is a lot to do. Every combination has been made after long consideration and from every litter we are willing to keep a dog for our own breeding in the view of our principles.

The love for this breed gives us strength and keeps us going. We also keep in touch with other Pyrenean Mastiff breeders here in Finland and all over the world.
